Commissioner Rafael E. Ortega is a progressive champion for Ramsey County, working to protect vulnerable residents, build a better transportation network, and redevelop brown fields to create jobs, housing, and increase the tax base. He grew up in poverty in New York City, received his B.A. at Fordham University, and later served as CEO of CLUES, growing the social service agency significantly. Ortega became the first person of color elected to the Ramsey County Board in 1994 and currently serves as Chair.
