Councilman Michael J. Silva, a lifelong Newark resident and son of Portuguese immigrants, brings over 25 years of law enforcement and community service to his role as East Ward Council Member. A graduate of St. Benedict's Prep and the Newark Police Academy, he served as a Community Service Detective. Deeply involved in the East Ward, he has worked with numerous civic, business, and cultural organizations, and actively supports causes like the American Cancer Society.
