James T. McCain, Jr., a native of Sumter, integrated the Sumter school system in 1965. After graduating from Morehouse College, he had a 35-year career in management with UPS. Upon retirement in 2009, he returned to Sumter and currently serves as Chairman of Sumter County Council.
